Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Christmas in Liguria

Italy has countless picturesque villages. Amongst them there is Camogli on the Ligurian cost. It is a small village between the sea and the mountains. It has centuries old traditions of sailing, exploration and fishing. It is always beautiful and fascinating, but during Christmas time it is even more quiet and relaxing. A Christmas atmosphere I cannot really describe with words.

You have the colourful houses reflected on the bay water, the sea lapping the black stony beach and the fascination of the infinite water horizon in front of you.

Christmas crib tradition

Many Italian regions have a strong tradition representing the Jesus nativity. Liguria is one of those. If you go to visit the different churches, you will find many different cribs where every detail is carefully cared for. Probably the candle light and the ancient folk music played with bagpipes create an amazing inspiring atmosphere whether you are a believer or not.

The tasty focaccia

Winter or summer Camogli and Liguria are linked with focaccia food tradition. A kind of flat oiled and baked bread invented centuries ago. It is a tasty and crunchy food that you cannot understand properly until you have tasted it. It is tradition to eat a small slice of it during breakfast together with the classical Italian morning coffee called cappuccino. Here some suggestions about focaccia from a ligurian chef.

Wherever you are

Wherever you are, by the sea, on the mountains or in your hometown, on holiday or not, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
