Travel Log: Kiev and the war seen through kids’ perspective.

Here we are with the second of four episodes about the great trip to Kiev.

For many reasons that don’t concern this blog we had the luck of being accompanied by some locals. People highly cordial and helpful like the majority of the people we have met even if sometime the linguistic barrier is an obstacle. English is not always spoken and so it may be difficult, sometime, to understand each other when asking for information. If before the war there was foreign tourism, now, there is not anymore and tourism is almost limited within Ukrainian people. It is difficult to find maps written not in Cyrillic and obviously also google map is written with these types. Many activities shown in the hotels’ maps have been closed in the meantime so it may happen not to find what you were looking for. History is so fast that it can happen to discover that the Lenin statue in Kiev that is still shown on the map, was taken down almost than one year ago.

Between the words of who is accompanying us we understand the tension of a Country that is not deserving this misfortune. In one of our tours around from one museum to the other one we bumped into an exhibition of kid’s paintings showing war through their perspective. One, among the others, has captured my attention. Three women dressed with the colours of the European, Ukraine and Russia’s flags. The Ukrainian woman is in the centre of the drawing, crying of pain, pulled on her left by Europe (West) and on her right by Russia (East).
